Yaan Quake: World Vision Assessment Team Arriving Sichuan for Quake Relief Print E-mail

World Vision is responding to the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that jolted Sichuan Province in central China last Saturday, April 20, in the morning, by mobilising relief items including hygiene kits and child friendly kits to the affected zone.  An assessment team has arrived in Sichuan today, April 22.  As of 1pm, official media reported 187 people were dead and 25 are missing.  Over 11,900 were reported injured.

Victor Kan Appointed National Director for World Vision China Print E-mail
World Vision announced the appointment of Victor Kan as the new National Director for World Vision China on March 15. This appointment takes effect on March 18. WV East Asia Regional Leader Agnes Ting announced the appointment and congratulated Mr. Kan on his new role. She also thanked Dr. Chao Wang for his significant contribution to WV China’s service in bringing abundant life to children and people the Organization serves.

hua_1.jpgThe 10-year-old Li Wenhua, nicknamed Xiaohua, is a World Vision's sponsored child.  She lives with her parents, younger brothers and sisters in a mountainous village of Luchun County.  Xiaohua is in primary three this year.  In the final examination last time, she was the third best student in class.  Apart from excellent academic performance, she is also a cheerful girl who loves singing very much.  One of her after-class activities is to play the game of "throwing handkerchief" with her peers, and the playground is by then filled with their laughter.
